The full form of ADHD is Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a psychological disorder which is related to the hypersensitive psychological state of mind. The most common symptoms in an infant are Extreme restlessness, crying, they also show a very poor sleep patterns. The older children have poor concentration they posses week memory, impulsiveness they are in a hurry to do everything, generally lacks self esteem. Weak short term memory and they suffer from some abnormal sleep and appetite problems. There are also different degrees of severity. To overcome this disease usually the relaxant drugs are provided to the children. There are many drugs available in the market for this disorder which is prescribed by the psychologists.

The drugs prescribed by the psychologist in the ADHD disorder:

There are mainly two types of treatment which is generally used to cure the ADHD types of treatment for ADHD; pharmacological and non-pharmacological. In the ADHD normally the psycho stimulants drugs are used; they are prescribed for both children and adults with severe ADHD but the dose of the psycho stimulants is different. These drugs have been intensively studied and used by the psychologists but there are serious concerns with long-term use of these drugs. The psycho stimulant drugs which are generally used are Ritalin. Concereta some non-stimulant drugs are also used with these stimulant drugs such as Starterra as well as amphetamines, such as Dexedrine and Adderall. Your doctor can advise a daily dosage which can be short or long acting. After this initial dosage your doctor may feel a need to increase or reduce the dosage for the drug to give you the desired effect.

The possible side effects of the ADHD drugs:

All stimulants have a number of side effects: The most common side effect of these therapies maybe the change in the appetite, sleeplessness and anxiousness.

The most important part in the process of treatment of any disease is the support that a patient or the victim gets from the people around him. Thus a person suffering from ADHD especially children require huge support from his parents, teachers, his doctors and all other people surrounding him. ADHD support groups can provide a key support, not only to the child suffering from the disease but also to the parents of the child.

Need for ADHD Support Groups:

ADHD is a disease which affects the mental well being of a person, especially of children. The disease is not very easy to diagnose nor is it easy to treat. The treatment of this disease requires accurate diagnosis and the help of professional psychiatrists and psychologists. In such a situation parents of the affected child may not always have the necessary information about the ways and means to treat the disease. This is where ADHD Support Groups step in. They can provide the necessary information about the medical help that can be sought to cure ADHD. They can also provide the information regarding the professional psychologists and trainers who could be consulted for the treatment of ADHD.

Influence of these Support Groups:

Such support groups can play a very crucial part in helping the child and also his parents to overcome this disease. Apart from being the source of information for the medical aid for the parents, they also act as an emotional support for the parents. They bring together such parents together whose children are suffering from ADHD. Thus the parents can share their problems and thoughts with one another. Also such groups can act as friendly platforms where parents can learn, share and relate to with respect to the disease.

ADHD Support Groups:

Some of the ADHD support groups are as follows:

1) Anna Jacques Hospital provides ADHD support groups.
2) Al Anon Support Group
3) Awake
4) CHADD

Conclusion:

In every walk of life an individual requires support. When it comes to supporting in course of a disease, support, can be the corner stone in curing it. Thus the support groups can be a boon for the children suffering from ADHD and also for their parents.

You need natural supplements that stimulate certain hormonal activities that can reduce the stress levels, depression, increase memory and promote the growth to pay attention.

Vitamins to boost your child:

There can be many deficiencies in your child that can lead to slow down your child's progress. These deficiencies need to be compensated by taking in nutrients that are rich in vitamins and other acids. Children are often lazy to consume good amount of food. In today's century, it's a world of fast food. That does not supply enough energy levels to your child. You need to give your child a proper vitamin that best suits him prescribed by your doctor to avoid him suffering from ADHD.

What are ADHD vitamins?

These are natural supplements and vitamins that can increase functioning of memory, reduce stress level and promote the performance of an individual. Depending on the sickness, your health care specialist prescribes certain vitamin tablets or supplements that will help you cure ADHD. Excess stress harms many other activities and functioning of our organs which can be a cause of ADHD due to lack of energy. To maintain certain nutrient levels in our body, it is essential to take these vitamin rich supplements that can reduce the risk of ADHD.

Types of vitamins for ADHD patients:

There is a list of vitamins that are prescribed by your doctor. You get B vitamins in different combinations and strength. For example: vitamin B12, folic acid and vitamin B12. You get different milligrams available like 500mg, 250 mg, etc. Your doctor will prescribe the correct vitamin that will compensate the needed vitamin to control ADHD level. Also deficient levels of vitamin B6 have been found in a lot of ADHD patients. Vitamin B6 combined with other minerals can supply necessary nutrients to cure ADHD. This is not recommended to take on your own. Your doctor will diagnose the ADHD factor and accordingly suggest a suitable vitamin for you.

With advanced study and research, the field of medicine has progressed with leaps and bounds. It has come up with cures for almost all the diseases. The research for such medicines still continues. But do all the drugs supposed to cure the diseases really perform their role or in turn throw up other range of different problems. This could be the problem associated with the drug called Ritalin prescribed over the disease Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder or ADHD.

Case against Ritalin:

According to experts if children suffering from ADHD are on Ritalin for more than one year then it can have adverse effects on the child's mental health and can further deteriorate his condition. Ritalin can cause further psychotic problems and hallucinations among the victims of ADHD. The intake of this drug can cause the victims to have visions of insects and snakes near them. According to the advisory of the Drug Safety and Risk Management advisory committee this drug can also cause heart attacks as well as strokes. According to the committee it has received several reports which suggest that children consuming this drug have abruptly died.

However there have also been cases where children prescribed to Ritalin have shown very good progress in schools and in their overall behaviour and abilities.

Some Bizarre Incidents:

A 12 year old school boy in Quebec was suspended from school when his mother refused to give him the drug when it was prescribed to him. It is noted that the parents were forced by the school authorities to prescribe Ritalin to the boy. The parents say that they must have the right to refuse drugs which have a controversial background.

According to experts schools prescribe this drug as they want all their students to be equally intelligent and hard working so that they can be easily controlled by the teachers.

How can Ritalin be avoided?

Almost all medical practitioners avoid prescribing Ritalin due to its extremely adverse side effects. Experts believe that Ritalin is prescribed only because the drug manufacturing companies earn large profits out of it. Parents feel that many a times doctors either prescribe this drug in a haste or prescribe an overdose of it.

Experts feel that Ritalin is not the sole answer to ADHD. The cure for this disease is a combination of numerous factors like medication as well as development of the child's personality. It is very necessary to develop traits among the child like self-confidence and self-belief and support the child to overcome this disease successfully.

As always more than the medicines it is the inner strength that is the key to recover from any malady- be it physical or mental. Diseases like the ADHD must be and can be cured without the help of drugs like Ritalin.

Attention deficit disorder coupled with food allergy is a unique problem faced by children. This has become one of the most controversial and a hot topic for debate in the field of medicine. Food sensitivities and ADHD is a very uncommon mechanism.

ADHD and its association with Food Allergy:

Children suffering from ADHD can develop food allergy with respect to different foodstuffs. The allergies can be reflected through various ways and children can develop dark circles under the eyes, glazed eyes, red ear lobes. Children show uncanny swings in their behavior. For one moment they can be calm and the next moment they can be extremely wild and hyperactive. A very surprising fact is that children suffering from this disease generally demand that food to which they are allergic to and which can affect them adversely.

How to recognize a child suffering from ADHD and food allergy:

Children suffering from ADHD and food allergy show adverse response to food which can be the main cause for the children to be suffering from ADHD.

Children suffering from ADHD show the following signs of food allergy:
a) Mood Swings and tantrums
b) Sleep disturbances
c) Asthma
d) Hyperactivity

Research shows that children suffering from food allergy can also suffer fro problems like migraine, eczema, sleep disturbances, head aches etc.

Remedial Measures:

According to experts medicines seldom cure such cases. They simply help in controlling the symptoms to some extent. Even psychologists cannot do much than just helping the child and his family to live with the disease. Medicines would help the child in going through the day but not cure it completely. However many psychologists have developed several tests and ways to successfully lessen the effect of the disease.

Conclusion:

According to experts, the percentage of children suffering from ADHD and food allergy ranges from 60% to 75% approximately. It is more important to treat food allergies than using medication. There are a several ways in which food allergies can be cured. One of the ways is diet elimination. Thus it can be believed that food allergies aggravate ADHD though it may not be the reason to cause ADHD. Thus treating food allergies is vital for treating ADHD.

There are mainly two types of treatment which is generally used to cure the ADHD types of treatment for ADHD; pharmacological and non-pharmacological. It is been found out in various studies that 70% to 80% children are benefited by the stimulant drugs. In the ADHD normally the psycho stimulants drugs are used; they are prescribed for both children and adults with severe ADHD but the dose of the psycho stimulants is different.

The side effects which generally occur due to this medication:

Some adverse effects have been seen in the children after these medications. The most common side effect of these medications is change in the appetite, sleeplessness and anxiousness. The younger children may loose some weight from these therapies Other side effects of these psycho stimulants drugs includes irritability, stomach pain, hair loss, headache, depression, hallucinations, and lack of spontaneity.

One of the most important and probably the most difficult diseases to treat are diseases which affect the brain. Neurological diseases can be very tricky to cure. Thus treating ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorders can be a challenging task.

Why is treating ADHD difficult?

ADHD is a neurological disease which affects the behavior of an individual, especially, of children. Thus as is true for almost all neurological diseases the symptoms of ADHD may not always be the same.. Children suffering from ADHD normally show signs of impulsiveness, hyperactivity and restlessness. However this may not always be the case. Even boredom is a symptom of ADHD. Also sometimes it can be very difficult to confirm whether a child is really suffering from ADHD or some other mental disorder. Also sometimes even normal children may show signs of ADHD. This can make the diagnosis even more difficult. Thus when the diagnosis itself is not accurate, treating the disease can be even more of a problem.

Treating ADHD:

The first step in the treatment of this disease is to ascertain correctly whether a child is really suffering from ADHD. A child suffering from this disease shows its symptoms on a much regular basis. He shows these signs in almost all the situations. Contrary to this normal children can show these signs but are less frequent and far less interspersed. Children suffering from ADHD show these signs mainly from the age of 7 years. Children suffering from ADHD can be treated in the following ways:

1) Consulting a good professional psychiatrist or a psychologist is the key in the process of treatment of ADHD.
2) Also conducting various psychological tests is important in the treatment process.
3) Simple, regular and balanced exercises can also be very useful in treating ADHD.
4) Parents of the children suffering from ADHD can also take the help of support groups where they can give the children individual activities which can help in improving the mental abilities of the children.
5) Doctors are averse in prescribing medicines and especially avoid giving medicines like Ritalin which can be harmful for the children.

Conclusion:

Treating ADHD can be hard work. It requires a lot of patience and determination especially on the part of the parents of the children suffering from ADHD. However as the saying goes " Where there is a Will, there is a Way !"

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD) as a disease is rapidly gaining ground. The number of people suffering from this disease, especially, children and youngsters is rising increasingly. Thus even the measures to cure this disease are gaining foothold. However to cure this disease the ADHD Checklist plays a key role in identifying the nature and degree of the disease among the particular individual. Thus obtaining an ADHD Checklist is very essential.

ADHD Checklist- The Concept:

The ADHD Checklist is mainly an instrument in determining the exact nature, degree and the impact of the disease on an individual. Thus more than curing the disease its forte is mainly "proper and accurate identification". The ADHD Checklist can come very close in identifying the effect of ADHD on the behavior of the person.

What does the ADHD Checklist Include?

The ADHD checklist for children and youngsters includes the following points:

a) A child / youngster suffering from ADHD is always restless and always raring to go.
b) He does not listen and pays no heed to his parents or to his teachers.
c) He lacks the ability to concentrate even for a short span of time.
d) He is extremely fidgety.
e) A child/ youngster suffering from ADHD takes risks easily and does not consider its consequences nor does he thinks about the action too much.
f) He can be very talkative and blurts out everything.
g) A person suffering from ADHD can be easily distracted and thus finds it difficult to complete any tasks assigned to him.

Thus while affirming that a child is suffering from ADHD the above checklist can be considered and if most of the child agrees to most of the above points then he has a very strong chance of being a victim of ADHD.

The ADHD Checklist for adults includes the following points:

a) An adult can suffer fro ADHD if he has suffered from hyperactivity and restlessness in his childhood.
b) Also all the symptoms that have been mentioned under the checklist for children and youngsters.
c) Apart from that, an adult suffering from ADHD shows inconsistent performance, decreasing work productivity and incomplete projects.
d) Also such individuals get frustrated very easily and show signs of nervousness and hypertension.
e) They find it extremely difficult to maintain close and intimate relationships.
f) They are constantly in search of activities that stimulate them.
g) They also suffer from bouts of depression and low energy levels.
h) They lack organizational skills and planning.

Thus while affirming that a child or an adult is suffering from ADHD the above checklists can be considered and if most of the child/adult agrees to most of the above points then he has a very strong chance of being a victim of ADHD.

Conclusion:Thus such a checklist may not answer all the questions related to ADHD. It may not even cure this disease. However this can certainly help in identifying whether the person is actually suffering from ADHD or from some other illness. ADHD Checklist can be a vital step in the process of curing ADHD.

Neurological diseases and diseases related to the brain are difficult to treat and comprehend. Neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists and medical researchers, despite great studies, know very little about the human brain. Thus a great deal of research and study is required to ascertain the nature of the mental disease that a person is suffering from. The case is no different for ADHD.

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hypersensitive Disorder or ADHD is a neurological disease which mainly affects children. A child is supposed to be suffering from ADHD when he shows signs of extreme restlessness, hyperactiveness, anxiety and impulsiveness. Children suffering from ADHD show these signs very regularly and under all the situations. These children lack the capacity to pay attention for a long time and can be easily distracted.

Causes of ADHD:

The exact cause of ADHD is not yet known. However experts believe that the following reasons might be the factors responsible for ADHD:

1) Experts believe that ADHD is biological in nature and is caused primarily due to a chemical imbalance in the brain.
2) Genetic factor can also be a chief cause for ADHD as per the experts' opinion. It has been observed that parents suffering from ADHD have children suffering from it too. Thus hereditary cause is also a prime reason for ADHD.
3) Identical tins show a tendency of suffering from ADHD more than the fraternal twins, even if the twins are raised separately.
4) There are other non-genetic factors responsible for causing ADHD. Other environmental factors like the child being exposed to toxic elements like lead or complications during pregnancy like insufficient oxygen or low birth weight or lack of essential fatty acids are responsible for it.
5) Mothers smoking during pregnancy period can play a vital role in making the child suffer from ADHD.
6) Some other causes include unbalanced and lack of nutritious diet, poor parenting and hormonal imbalance.

Conclusion:

The above given causes are simply presumptions made by medical researchers. However the exact cause of ADHD which can be pin-pointed still remains a mystery. Thus the researches continue for finding out the exact cause and treatment of ADHD.

Generally 3-5% of children of pre-schools and also adults suffer from ADHD.

Symptoms of ADHD in teenagers:

1. In children the basic symptom that is observed is not being attentive.

Sometimes they may appear as a normal behavior in many other teens, Diagnosis of ADHD is not compulsory. It depends on the natural behavior pattern of an individual and some extreme changes detected that define ADHD.

In adults the causes for ADHD can be many. Like:

Depression, marital problems, loneliness, inattention and disturbed life pattern. All these lead to change the behavior pattern of an adult. They start reacting strongly towards all these which lead to change their nature.

The basic symptoms observed in adults that suffer from ADHD are:

Qualities differ from person to person. Although these may be observed as natural qualities in some of the adults, they may appear as a disorder in many. It is very difficult to realize that these are the only symptoms that define that you are suffering from ADHD. They do help in determining ADHD but make sure you deal this with a health care professional. Only a specialist will be able to determine the patient of ADHD after a detailed study of history of the patients' behavior pattern. Sometimes the qualities might be a situational change in temporary behavior pattern, which can make you think it as a symptom of ADHD. To avoid misdiagnosis know your child or yourself better.

What is stratera drug?

Stratera drug is a non stimulant drug. Stratera drug is an alternative non-stimulant drug which is generally used as the alternative for the stimulant drug like Ritalin; Concereta sometimes non-stimulant drugs are also used with these stimulant drugs such as Startera as well as amphetamines, such as Dexedrine and Adderall may be to overcome the side effects carried on by the psycho stimulant drugs. The stratera is now approved Strattera (atomoxetine) as a new non-stimulant drug to treat this disorder in adults and children over age 6. Though this is not the first non-stimulant medication for ADHD But it is considered to be the most effective non-stimulant drug.

What are the advantages of using stratera?

There are many adverse effects have been seen in the children after using such stimulant drug? The most common side effect of these treatments is change in the appetite, sleeplessness and anxiousness. The younger children may loose some weight from these therapies Other side effects of these psycho stimulants drugs includes irritability, stomach pain, hair loss, headache, depression, hallucinations, and lack of spontaneity. The non stimulant drugs such as stratera are a good alternative for the stimulant drugs because stratera does not carry these side effects. Many studies show that the stratera is safe and effective.

The human brain is one of the most complex aspects of the human body and it is still a puzzle for the medical practitioners and researchers. Mental or neurological disorders can affect anyone and at anytime. An individual can suffer from a mental disorder at any stage in life and the reason for it can be anything or even nothing at all. Thus in case of ADHD too, it is the same condition. Adult ADHD is a growing disease today.

More about Adult ADHD:

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder or ADHD is said to be mainly affecting children or adolescents. However even adults can suffer from this situation and can be victims of ADHD. The symptoms of ADHD are inattentiveness, high impulsiveness, highly hyperactive and restless. ADHD can affect adults at any stage in life. Adults ADHD is difficult to diagnose as it is mistaken as a result of a stressful life. However if the individual shows the symptoms for a majority part of his life it means that he is suffering from ADHD.

How to recognize ADHD among adults?

To confirm that adults suffer from ADHD the following factors must be considered:

1) Adults suffering from ADHD can have difficulties in winding up a project or a given task once the difficult part of the project is completed.
2) The individual has trouble in the organization and time management necessary for a project or a task.
3) A person suffering from ADHD tends to forget his appointments and obligations.
4) An individual suffering from ADHD has trouble in sitting in one place for a long time and fidgets and squirms in his seat if he has to do so.
5) Sometimes he gets so hyperactive that he tends to do things very fast and without much thought behind it.

Coping with ADHD:

There are several ways in which adults can cope with ADHD. Psychologists, psychiatrists and doctors have designed special ways to treat adult ADHD. The following are few of the ways in which Adult ADHD can be treated:

1) Special counseling by professional psychologists and psychiatrists.
2) Different coping and skill strategies developed for treating adult ADHD.
3) Professional psychologists advise behavior modifications, coaching and therapy and a combination of these factors.
4) Treatment is customized for each patient.
5) The psychologist or the psychiatrist first determines the degree and nature of the ADHD among the individual.
6) The physician then determines the treatment according to the symptoms of ADHD among the individual.
7) The treatment involves monitoring the symptoms and treatment and medicinal effects on the individual with respect to his work, domestic and social life and his level of performance in every field.

Conclusion:

Thus this proves that it is not necessary that only children suffer from ADHD. Individuals above the age of 18 to suffer from it and that Adult ADHD is very much prevalent.

Certain changes in the behavior pattern like slowing down in academics, or feeling frustrated or depressed always can be the symptoms of ADHD. If left unattended it can seriously affect your child's growth.

Medication or something else:

Most commonly prescribed medicines for people suffering from ADHD are Ritalin, Adderall, and Concerta. They have a very short term effect to reduce the symptoms of ADHD but it's not the complete cure of the disorder. To increase your child's performance it is very essential to know what your child is going through mentally which may require counseling. There are certain certified ADHD schools that conduct the entire treatment and procedures to cure ADHD.

What are ADHD schools?

There are certain boarding schools that not only deal with education but also conduct special programs to deal with learning disability of teenagers that suffer from ADHD. These ADHD boarding schools conduct counseling and other activities that help the teenager develop self-confidence and reduce the depression level by creating a safe environment. They deal with many interactive programs and teachers of such schools are trained in such a way that they can handle each student individually to make them find the right approach towards success.

How long can your child stay in these boarding schools?

Well, that will depend on the study of the cause of ADHD. Some teenagers may stay for 12 months while some may need more than that. It differs, but the main cause of these schools if to improve the behavior of your child and see that they progress in their academics giving them a better stand in the society. There are many boarding schools in different states but you have to see which school suits best for your child's need.

It is said that children are closest to God. Thus children suffering from diseases like Attention Deficit Disorders ( ADD) are all the more special. They are God's special children and have a different destiny carved for them. They are different from the normal children in a lot of ways.

More about these "Special" children:

Children suffering from ADD/ ADHD show the following symptoms:

a) Children suffering from ADD/ ADHD have very low attention spans. They cannot pay attention at a particular thing for a long time.
b) They suffer from hyperactivity problem.
c) They find it extremely difficult to complete any given tasks.
d) Such children can be easily distracted.
e) Such children can land up in unwanted troubles as they can undertake activities which may involve high risks. These children can do things without thinking too much about the after- effects.
f) Such children may be over-interfering.
g) Such children can be forgetful and lose their things.
h) They can be very talkative.
i) They show signs of restlessness.

But:

Children suffering from ADHD show the above mentioned disorders. However they can be very intelligent with great skills and talent. Thus can showcase their talent in various fields ranging from academics to sports to art, craft and cultural activities. They can be extremely creative and bright young minds.

To distinguish between normal and ADHD children:

Thus with the above mentioned aspects that ADHD children portray, it can be a challenge to distinguish between normal children and children suffering from ADHD. However children suffering from ADHD show the above mentioned symptoms on a much more regular basis than the normal children who show these signs on a very irregular basis. Children suffering from ADHD show such symptoms with a higher degree and with a higher severity. Normal children show these signs but are less severe in nature.

ADHD children show these signs in all the situations which is not the case among normal children.

Role of Parents and Teachers:

The first step to be considered, especially, by parents is careful and proper evaluation of the child suffering fro ADHD. They must refer to a good and professional trainer. Proper evaluation can be done through various IQ tests and other psychological tests. Parents and teachers must extend strong and unconditional support to such children and help them overcome this disease to the greatest extent.

Conclusion:

Children suffering from ADHD are not very different from the normal ones. With proper guidance, support and encouragement they too can lead a normal life similar to the one led by the normal children. After all ADHD children too are "gifted"!

Many a times it happens that when a treatment for any disease is administered for a disease, the treatment itself can have negative effects on the victim. Thus the case is no different in case of neurological diseases like Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder or ADHD as it is widely known.

In such situations, experts try to search alternative ways and means to cure such diseases.

Need for Alternative cures for ADHD:

ADHD is a neurological disease. It mainly affects children and can be traced from the fact that it makes the child extremely impulsive, hyperactive and restless. As a cure for this disease, the normal prescribed medicines were Ritalin, Novartis etc. However it has been observed that these medicines started having adverse effects on the child suffering from ADHD. Thus medical practitioners started avoiding these drugs. This is where the need for alternative means for treating ADHD became necessary which do not have any side-effects on the victim.

Different Alternatives for treating ADHD:

Researchers, medical experts neurologists have tried to devise different means for treating ADHD. Though ADHD cannot be cured completely, some of the alternative means definitely show some positive results. Some of the alternatives suggested are as follows:

1) Drugs like AMORYN contain hyperforin which helps to improve concentration and can be a basic treatment for anxiety and depression. It also helps in calming the mind and the body. But AMORYN must be given to children under 12 years of age only under the guidance of the physician.
2) There are other natural ways of treatment like ATTEND which is a very good homeopathic or herbal way of treating ADHD. ATTEND involves amino acid combinations, essential fatty acids, lipid complexes, homeopathic medicines, hormone precursors, and the precursors to specific neurotransmitters.
3) ADHD is now trying to be treated with new drugs called Fluoxetine and Tomoxetine Children have shown some improvement with the intake of this drug.
4) More and more anti-stimulant treatments too are being prescribed for children suffering from ADHD.
5) New drugs like Atomoxetine seem to be a good alternative for treating ADHD.
6) Experts also believe that a balanced diet and good nutritional diet can be an effective way in treating ADHD.

Conclusion:

Thus this proves that ADHD now has several answers. Though ADHD cannot be eradicated completely, it would definitely lessened through the above given methods. The best way of curing ADHD is the natural way with no side-effects.
