The term chronic fatigue or CFS as it is commonly known refers to a disorder affecting the health and immune system of the body along with the mental stability. There is no proper diagnosis for the syndrome as the people suffering from it are not actually aware of it. Such is the deadliness of the disorder. Normally if the person is suffering from unrefreshing sleep or feeling exhausted even after twenty four hours of exertion, then he could suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome.

A person suffering from it may have other effects such as sore throat, unexplained muscle soreness, headaches that are different from the usual ones, pains to the joints and their swelling and trouble with short term memory and concentration.

Recovery of the patient from disorder

No one is certain about the causes of the chronic fatigue syndrome. The symptoms may be caused by the immune system that isn’t working well or they may be caused by some kind of virus. Recovery of the patient from the disorder is very difficult if he is not strong mentally. The disorder to that person may be caused due to excessive thinking and hence not being able to sleep well. So a sound sleep is always required for helping improve your condition. Some of the symptoms, such as muscle aches, sleep problems, anxiety and depression can be treated with medicine. The medicine can only reduce your symptoms and allow you to be more active, not cure the fatigue. So far, there is no medicine that cures the entire syndrome. Most symptoms improve with time.

Recovery of the person from the disorder does not mean that the person is cured fully. The disorder could strike him back if proper care is not taken. Keep a daily diary to identify times when you have the most energy. Plan your activities for these times. Keep up some level of activity and exercise, within your abilities. Your doctor can help you plan an exercise program to maintain your strength at whatever level is possible. Exercise can help your body and mind. If your memory and concentration are affected by chronic fatigue, keep lists and make notes to remind yourself of important things. Also, give yourself more time for activities that take concentration. Medicine may also help you sleep better, which might improve your memory and concentration.

So see to it that you live healthy life. The better is your health the more you stay away from the diseases and the disorders.

Depression remains a more familiar cause of most of these symptoms. People are a little complex. It is significant to remember that people can have more than one diagnosis at a time. Some symptoms are more common in one disorder than the other, and these only can help you begin to explore what diagnosis might fit you best. People with hypothyroidism, as for example, frequently gain weight. This can take place in depression, but it is even more common with low thyroid. People with chronic fatigue can be depressed, but it is also general for them simply to be very tired.

Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue and Depression

While these symptoms are frequently caused by depression, thyroid problems and chronic fatigue syndrome can also result in these symptoms. It’s even probable that you have fibromyalgia, sleep apnea or an autoimmune disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. Fibromyalgia seems to overlap with chronic fatigue, but persons with this turmoil also have sleep disturbance and chronic pain. Tender points in certain muscles that respond with pain when touched a certain way usually diagnose the disorder. Sleep disturbance is universal in chronic fatigue and in fibromyalgia. Some research suggests that we need deep sleep in order to repair our bodies on a normal basis. A disruption in this stage of sleep might contribute these conditions.

Thyroid Problems

Thyroid Problems can lead to either weight loss or feelings of anxiety or weight gain and feelings of depression. It can also result in a complex mix of symptoms that don’t seem to make sense. The traditional model of thyroid function suggests that hypothyroid – low thyroid – results in depression and weight gain while hyperthyroid, high thyroid leads in anxiety and weight loss. The traditional treatment involves medications that bring the body chemistry under control.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has remained a controversial diagnosis in some quarters. The NIH is funding explore on this syndrome, and other research is going on worldwide. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases defines Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as a pronounced fatigue that comes on abruptly and is relentless or relapsing, causing debilitating tiredness or easy exhaustion in someone who has no apparent reason for feeling this way.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is also referred to as chronic fatigue immune deficiency syndrome. It is a disabling illness featured by persistent fatigue accompanied by rheumatologic, cognitive, and infectious-appearing symptoms. Despite of any intense medical research, there is no known cause for chronic fatigue syndrome, but it seems to be a heterogeneous disorder which affects multiple systems, including hormonal, neurologic, and immunologic. As there are no specific diagnostic tests or physical findings for Chronic fatigue syndrome, diagnosis needs knowledge of possible symptoms and a method of exclusion. Chronic fatigue syndrome is likely to be a spectrum of illnesses sharing a common pathogenesis with varying degrees of fatigue and associated symptoms.

Causes of chronic fatigue syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome affects both the genders, and all the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic populations, and can begin as early as five years of age. Though previous reports showed a predominance of chronic fatigue syndrome in well-educated, white females between 20 and 50 years of age, these findings might be skewed by study populations that were selected from patients who sought medical care for the disorder. Moreover, the diagnostic ambiguity surrounding chronic fatigue syndrome invariably leads to imprecise and inconsistent epidemiologic statistics.

Cure for chronic fatigue syndrome

Serious fatigue is a familiar complaint amongst the patients. Often, the fatigue is transient or can be accredited to a definable organic illness. Some patients present with importunate and disabling fatigue, but show no abnormalities on physical examination or screening laboratory tests. In these cases, the diagnoses of chronic fatigue syndrome have to be considered. Chronic fatigue syndrome is featured by debilitating fatigue with associated myalgias, tender lymph nodes, arthralgias, chills, feverish feelings, and postexertional malaise. Diagnosis of Chronic fatigue syndrome is principally by exclusion with no definitive laboratory test or physical findings. Medical research continues to examine the many probable etiologic agents for chronic fatigue syndrome i.e. infectious, immunologic, neurologic, and psychiatric, but the answer remains elusive. It is well-known that chronic fatigue syndrome is a heterogeneous disorder which is possibly involving an interaction of biologic systems. Similarities with fibromyalgia exist and concomitant illnesses comprise irritable bowel syndrome, depression, and headaches. Therefore, treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome might be variable and should be tailored to each patient. Therapy should comprise exercise, diet, good sleep hygiene, antidepressants, and other medications, depending on the patient’s presentation.

The individuals should set priorities, balance his or her rest, physical activity and use adaptive equipment. This will improve the patient’s daily performance. The uses of tricyclic antidepressants are helpful for CFS patients. The Monoamine oxidase inhibitor has negative effect on the neurotransmitters. Use of designer antidepressants, selective serotonin uptake inhibitor, Prozac, paxil, Zoloft, disopyramide, beta-blockers and stimulants is also helpful.

Recently medical profession has described a syndrome called chronic fatigue syndrome. Once divisive, it has become usual as a valid diagnosis by medical professionals. CFS follows a viral infection, and is then found after mononucleosis infections. Some non-specific symptoms of fatigue are tiredness, exhaustion, and aches which make CFS difficult to diagnose and they are comparable to some other conditions such as lupus, multiple sclerosis and Lyme disease (among others). CFS and fibromyalgia carve up many common characteristics, and may be misdiagnosed as depression.

Research report of the National institute of health

The medical report, which was assessed by laboratory and other means, were considered from the different perspectives of key medical specialties involved in CFS research. It was suggested that Centers for Disease Control (CDC) case-definition criteria has to be adapted to eliminate some few patients from analysis because of psychiatric disorder. Suggestions were made concerning the inclusion or exclusion of some other major perplexing diagnoses, and a panel of laboratory tests was specified for initial patient evaluation. The workshop emphasized the importance of identifying other conditions that could explain the patient’s symptoms, which can be treatable. It was decided that the data analysis would consist a separate sub group of the students suffering from this. As CFS is a homogeneous abnormality and also there is no pathogenic mechanism, research progress may depend upon demarcation of these and other patient subgroups for separate data analysis. To develop good instruments for quantifying domains in patients suffering from CFS further research is to be conducted.

Heart rate variability

The CFS patients verified a regular pattern of heart beat action. Some cardiac conditions were associated with reduced HRV. Heart activity had a slightly different pattern of heartbeats and unhealthy heart activity has a regular pattern of heartbeats. CFS patients have consistently displayed low levels of heart rate variability (HRV) during tilt table testing. The low frequency (LF) part of the spectrum is typically increased in CFS patient’s proposed increased sympathetic nervous system and decreased parasympathetic nervous system activity. Intriguingly (along with many other CFS-like symptoms such as fatigue, poor concentration, palpitations, etc.), over-trained athletes have similar HRV findings. Augmented sympathetic activity in cardiac patients is believed to be a protective response designed to reduce the possibility of life threatening arrhythmias.

Adrenal chronic fatigue is a very common disorder related to the fatigue and lethargy. The long lasting tiredness, anxiety and depression can point towards the problem of adrenal chronic fatigue. Adrenal chronic fatigue is usually very common in the middle aged people but this syndrome is found in the people of all ages.

Signs and Symptoms of Adrenal chronic Fatigue

The symptoms of the adrenal chronic fatigue are not constant. The most common symptom of adrenal chronic fatigue remains the fatigue, anxiety and depression. But this fatigue should stay at least six months before its diagnosis. The other common symptoms of this disorder are tendency to gain weight and unable to loose it, forgetfulness, pain in the upper back and neck. The people suffering with adrenal chronic fatigue gets the flu and other respiratory diseases very easily and these diseases last longer than usual. Affected person may suddenly feel better a day. If you have some or many of these signs and symptoms, then adrenal chronic fatigue can be a possibility. Adrenal chronic fatigue cannot be definitely diagnosed on the basis of these symptoms. However, if the other organic pathologies have been ruled out then it is the time to consider the adrenal chronic fatigue as the possible cause.

This disorder decreases the adrenal gland’s ability to carry out its normal function. This disorder can be cured only by adhering to healthy living principals. To cope up with adrenal chronic fatigue one has to take proper rest, together with specific nutritional diets. The affected person should try to remove stressors to recover from this disorder.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients might find it therapeutic to meet with other people who have this illness, and often this can be accomplished by joining a local chronic fatigue syndrome support group. Support groups are not suitable for everyone, and some chronic fatigue syndrome patients may find that a support group really adds to their stress rather than relieving it. Most support groups are free, collect deliberate donations, or charge modest membership dues to cover basic expenses.

Features of a good support group

A useful support group should include of both the newcomers and patients who have had chronic fatigue syndrome for longer periods of time to provide a balance of perspectives for the group. It should also comprise people with whom the chronic fatigue syndrome patient feels comfortable. The group also comprises leaders who empathize, gently draw out shy members, and keep others from dominating, and who distill discussion into useful information. The group should have a history indicating the group is stable and meeting the requirements of its members.

Disadvantages of few of the support groups

Some support groups might put their own interests before those of the individual patient. Groups that engage in any of the negative activities should be avoided like that of promise sure cures and quick solutions. The group should conduct meetings that are mainly gripe sessions. These kinds of groups urge patients to stop prescribed treatment and recommend a single solution to their problem. They insist that patients reveal private or sensitive information. They also demand allegiance to a cult-like, charismatic leader. They also charge high fees from the patient. They always require patients to purchase products.

Reports on chronic fatigue syndrome

As the cause of chronic fatigue syndrome has not been identified and its effect on the body is not well understood, periodically new invalidated beliefs about cures and causes of chronic fatigue syndrome are widely circulated. These might be based on one or more recent reports from the peer-reviewed scientific literature, or they might evolve from the anecdotal remarks of clinicians or scientists at medical meetings. In some cases the origin is vague. Even work that is of sufficiently high caliber to be published in the scientific literature is not without limitations and design flaws, and all published work needs to be confirmed and expanded on by others before it can be applied with confidence in clinical situations.

Facts Related to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome can never be permanently cured. This syndrome is also known as CFS in the abbreviated form. In this type of syndrome includes prolong prevalence fatigue. This disease was first named in 1980.

Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome contains major and minor symptoms. New-onset fatigue which is lasting for more than six months and has resulted into 50% reduction in the activity of an individual is considered as a major symptom for chronic fatigue syndrome. At this level no medical or psychiatric assistant is of any help. Hence the best way to curtail chronic fatigue syndrome is to treat it at its initial stage itself. Some of the minor symptoms depicted by most of the patients suffering from this syndrome include mild fever and headache. Soar throat, general muscle weakness and myalgias. Myalgias refers to muscle pain is also considered as one of the minor symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome. Sleep disturbance such as insomnia and hypersomnia are also common symptoms observed in patients suffering from this syndrome. Some patients also complain about neuropsychological problems such as confusion, irritability, depression, poor concentration and forgetfulness.

Statistics Regarding Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Research says that this syndrome usually occurs in huge number amongst women than men. It is said that chronic fatigue syndrome is three times more prevalent in women then in men. It is also said that even children can be affected by this syndrome. Approximately 90% of cases fall under the age group of 25 to 50 years. Statistics provide that around 500,000 Americans suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome. In other words 1 among 544 Americans i.e. 0.18% of American population is suffering from this syndrome. Although this number seems to be nominal, it is rising considerably. Almost all the patients suffering from this syndrome complain about fatigue. Around 60-95% of the patients complain about low-grade fever. The frequency of sleep disorders is 15-90% and that of psychological problems ranges from 70-85%. 50-75% of patients complain of headache, cough, soar throat and allergies. These statistics are changing considerably. Hence, today this syndrome requires considerable amount of attention in order to control its outbreak.

This disorder is also caused due to hypothyroidism, over activity of the pituitary gland and diabetes.
Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

In chronic fatigue syndrome, besides persistent fatigue, the patient may also complain about insomnia, headache, fever and non-refreshing sleep. This syndrome may also lead to poor concentration and temporary loss of memory. It may also cause soar throat and muscle pain. In some cases muscle pain is also accompanied with joint pain. This syndrome may also lead to psychological problems such as depression, anxiety and panic attacks.

Correction of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

This syndrome can be treated in many ways. In order to help the patients suffering from this disease, several clinics have been set up all over the world. These clinics are known as chronic fatigue clinics. The main function of these clinics is to diagnose chronic fatigue syndrome with the help of the symptoms shown by the patients. After diagnosis this syndrome is treated. The other services which are provided by these clinics are education and counseling of the patients suffering from this syndrome. Patients suffering from severe and persistent fatigue are treated through fibromyalgia. The clinic’s physician evaluates each person’s illness and provides the appropriate treatment to the respective patients. Some of the clinics also provide counseling to emotionally disturbed patients. These clinics are also equipped with acupuncturists who relieve pain through alternative therapy. There are various mayoclinics and fibromyalgia clinics which run with the aim of disease control and prevention of chronic fatigue syndrome. These clinics also treat the allergies, pain and other symptoms related to chronic fatigue syndrome. Hence, these clinics have very thing related to the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome under one roof.

As cells touch each other, they communicate directly to this sugar code. There are about eight essential saccharides our bodies need in order for this cellular communication to properly take place. It has been shown that our body gets only 2 of these 8 saccharides in our diet. These nutrients combine with proteins and fats to generate Glycoforms that coat the surface of virtually every cell in our body. Glycoforms function as cellular recognition molecules, which communicate the messages a body needs to function in health.

What is a Chronic Fatigue?

Glyconutrients are simple sugars that are known as monosaccharides in medical terms. They are vital to your immune system. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, also known as CFS that can be a very debilitating problem that can really sap your energy. There are a number of chronic fatigue syndrome signs and symptoms to look out for in order to distinguish between this illness and simple flu. The reason of chronic fatigue syndrome can vary, and there are many possible chronic fatigue syndrome signs and symptoms. Sufferers could even suffer from some or even all of these symptoms depending on the severity of the CFS.

Glyconutrients and Chronic Fatigue

There are about 75 trillion cells in the human body. From the very beginning of life, cells communicate with each other using these sugars on the surface of the cell, which holds the complex system of the human body together and keeps out what doesn’t belong to the human body. Improper cellular communication can lead into a variety of illnesses, such as auto-immune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, tumors and even cancer. Glyconutrients are very important for our well being and it seems that they are particularly significant if you have Fibromyalgia. Some people even believe Glyconutrients to be as a Fibromyalgia miracle.

Fibromyalgia is a widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder for which the reason is still unknown. Fibromyalgia means the pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons. These muscles, ligaments and tendons are the soft fibrous tissues in the body. Most of the patients having fibromyalgia say that they ache all over. The muscles of theirs might feel like they have been pulled or overworked. Sometimes the muscles twitch and many times they burn. More women than men are affected with fibromyalgia and it shows up in people of all ages. If any person gets afflicted to fibromyalgia one should think of the last time they had a bad flu and the time when every muscle in their body shouted in pain. In this case the patient feels devoid of energy as though someone had unplugged their power supply. The severity of symptoms fluctuates from patient to patient and the fibromyalgia might resemble as a post-viral state.

In this case the patient feels devoid of energy as though someone had unplugged their power supply. The severity of symptoms fluctuates from patient to patient and the fibromyalgia might resemble as a post-viral state.

What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is described as a severe, debilitating fatigue, lasting at least six months, associated with at least four of the following symptoms, i.e. impaired memory or concentration, sore throat, lymphadenopathy, muscle pains, joint pains, new headaches, un-refreshing sleep and post-exertion malaise. Other medical and psychiatric conditions that can lead to fatigue should be ruled out, including Lyme’s disease. Many of the chronic fatigue syndrome patients after demanding physical exercise have shown impaired cognitive processing.

Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue

One can say that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia syndrome are at two opposite ends of the same disorder as the chronic fatigue syndrome lays emphasis more on the fatigue whereas the fibromyalgia syndrome gives more emphasis on the pain. Reason as why the fibromyalgia takes place is still in dilemma but there are many a triggering events that are thought to precipitate its onset. There are few examples that would be an infection, an automobile accident or the development of another disorder like that of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or hypothyroidism. All these triggering events do not lead to fibromyalgia but they might awaken an underlying physiological abnormality that is already present.

Definition

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a condition of prolonged and severe tiredness or weariness that is not relieved by rest and is not directly caused by other conditions. To be diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, the tiredness must be severe enough to decrease ability to do regular work or activities by 50%.

Causes, Incidence and Risk Factors

The exact cause of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is unknown. Some researchers suspect it may be caused by a virus. However, no distinct viral cause has been identified. Recent studies have shown that the chronic fatigue syndrome may be caused by inflammation of pathways in the nervous system and that this inflammation may be some sort of immune response or autoimmune process. CFS may occur when a viral illness is complicated by an inadequate immune response. Other factors such as age, prior illness, stress, environment or genetic disposition may also play a role. CFS most commonly occurs in women ages 30 to 50.

Few known disorders

The condition at the time of CFS may be associated with diminished blood flow to certain parts of the brain. Clinicians have identified several other possible causes including the autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Chronic sleep disorders, emotional stress or trauma, endocrine system dysfunction, upper spinal cord injury and viral or bacterial infection can also be the cause for the chronic disorder.

Background of CFS

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a disorder of unknown etiology that probably has an infectious basis. CFS is a state of chronic fatigue, which exists without other explanation for long and is accompanied by cognitive difficulties. Various unrelated infectious diseases appear to lead to a state of prolonged fatigue in some patients. If the condition is accompanied by cognitive difficulties, the disease is termed CFS. While the cause of CFS is unknown, the disease probably is an infectious disease. The viruses that may lead to a state of chronic fatigue do not cause CFS. One or more viruses have been implicated as the cause of CFS. As no direct tests aid in the diagnosis of CFS, the disease is a diagnosis of exclusion but one that meets certain clinical criteria, which are further supported by certain nonspecific tests.

Nutritious diet with supplements prescribed can help in relieving the symptoms like tiredness.

Vitamins and Minerals

There are a wide range of vitamins and minerals advisable for people suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome. The most important vitamin and mineral supplements are Beta carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B and many others. Vitamin C is very necessary to for the immune system and fends off the common symptom of cold and flues. Vitamin A is very necessary for the production of the antibodies. Vitamin E works as a powerful antioxidant. These vitamins must be taken daily and vitamin C must be taken three times a day. The affected persons may also take High-potency multivitamin mineral combination, Zinc picolinate, Magnesium glycinate, Calcium citrate or lactate and Manganese. It is also prescribed to take Omega 3 EFAs, Pantothenic acid, Acetyl-L-carnitine, Adrenal extract, Vitamin B-l2 injections, Gamma globulin injections. All these other supplements can be taken weekly.

Other supplements

Magnesium: Magnesium and malic acid assist in transforming nutrients into energy. Recent studies have revealed that magnesium content in chronic fatigue syndrome affected persons is significantly lower than healthy persons.

Chlorella: it is a replenishing supplement, which contains high amounts of chlorophyll. It helps the body to destroy viruses.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus: it is a friendly bacterium, which is necessary for a healthy immune system. This should be taken daily as antibiotics.

It is also advisable to take Bromelain to reduce inflammation. Some Digestive Enzyme Supplement should also be given with each meal. This will improve the digestion of the affected person.

If you are suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome and taking Acyclovir, then drink plenty of fluids to prevent the side effects of this drug. If you have forgotten to take a dose then take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Take other remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. If it is too late to take the missed dose, then forget about the missed dose. You should take next dose and do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Double dose can cause some complications.

Medication or pharmacological therapy is directed toward the relief of specific symptoms experienced by the individual patient. Patients with chronic fatigue syndrome are usually sensitive to drugs, especially those that affect the central nervous system. Therefore the usual treatment strategy is to begin with very low doses and to increase the dosage gradually as necessary.

Tricyclic Agents

Low-dose tricyclic agents are sometimes prescribed for chronic fatigue syndrome patients to improve sleep and to relieve mild, generalized pain. Some examples of trycyclic agents are doxepin, amitriptyline, desipramine and nortriptyline. Some adverse reactions are dry mouth, drowsiness, weight gain and an elevated heart rate.

Anti-depressants

Anti-depressants have been used to treat depression in chronic fatigue syndrome patients. Examples of anti-depressants used to treat chronic fatigue syndrome include serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, venlafaxine, trazodone and bupropion. A number of mild adverse reactions may be experienced, varying with the specific drug used.

Anxiolytic Agents

Anxiolytic agents are used to treat panic disorder in chronic fatigue syndrome patients. Examples of anxiolytic agents include alprazolam, clonazepam and lorazepam. Some common adverse reactions are sedation, amnesia and withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, abdominal and muscle cramps, vomiting, sweating, tremors and convulsions.

Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs

These drugs may be used to relieve pain and fever in chronic fatigue syndrome patients. Some examples are naproxen, ibuprofen and piroxicam. These medications are usually safe when used as directed but can cause a variety of adverse effects such as kidney damage, gastrointestinal bleeding, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

Anti-allergy Therapy

Some chronic fatigue syndrome patients have a history of allergy, and these symptoms may flare periodically. Non-sedating antihistamines may be helpful as anti-allergy therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome patients. Some examples are astemizole and loratadine. Some common adverse reactions are drowsiness, fatigue and headache.

Anti-hypotensive Therapy

Fludrocortisone is sometimes prescribed for chronic fatigue syndrome patients who have had a positive tilt table test. It is currently being tested in controlled studies for its efficiency in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome patients.

Anti-hypertensive Therapy

Beta-blockers such as atenolol are also prescribed for patients with a positive tilt table test. Water intake with increased salt content is also recommended for these patients. Adverse reaction to atenolol is low blood pressure.

With the advent of technology, new drugs are being formulated to treat patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. These drugs include ampligen and dehydroepiandrosterone.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is intensive fatigue which lasts for more than six months and results in 50% reduction in normal activity of an individual. This syndrome is also termed as myalgic encephalomyelitis.

Main Causes of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Although we are not aware of the origin of this syndrome, it is said that this disorder is usually caused due to trauma or excessive stress. This syndrome can also be due to certain genetic factors. Sometimes brain abnormalities also lead to chronic fatigue syndrome. A hyper-reactive immune system may also cause chronic fatigue syndrome. Viral or other agents may also be a reason for this syndrome.

Treating CFS through Herbalife

Herbalife was founded in the year 1980. It is an international company that produces products for weight-loss and other health-related problems using nutrients and herbs. Herbalife helps to do away with the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome. It is a solution to irritability and enhances the energy level in an individual. Herbalife also includes consumption of lot of fluids. Due to this the entire system of the body is cleaned. Herbalife believes in enhancing the quality of life of an individual by providing the essential nutrients to him or her, which he fails to absorb through normal food. It hence, deals with various disorders. Moreover, herbalife helps in weightloss which proves to be beneficial in order to treat this syndrome. Use of herbalife to treat chronic fatigue syndrome is a form of alternative therapy.

Other Forms of Treatment

Since chronic fatigue syndrome is caused due to psychological imbalance, a psychiatrist or a psychologist or an occupational therapist may be useful in treating this syndrome. It is also advised to exercise regularly. Healthy diet and regular physical activity are the keys to a disease-free life. In order to reduce the muscle and joint pain, often doctors recommend painkillers. In some cases antidepressant is also recommended in order to shun depression. In recent times alternative therapy also has solutions to many disorders. Therapies such as aromatherapy, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, ayurveda and many more prove to be beneficial against chronic fatigue syndrome.

There are various associations providing help for the treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome. There is NJCFSA, which is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization whose purpose is to support patients, disseminate reliable information and promote research. The association sponsors a wide range of activities, comprising that of support groups, newsletter, phone list, statewide conferences, hotline, and interfacing with the CFS community. The NJCFSA is affiliated to the CFIDS Association of America and the American Association. We also have different associations around us in order to get rid of this chronic fatigue. The Wisconsin chronic fatigue syndrome association acts as a clearinghouse for chronic fatigue syndrome information within the state of Wisconsin and to assist patients and their families. The association also helps to encourage communication among agencies, institutions and concerned individuals. It also promotes research on the cause, cure and ultimate prevention of chronic fatigue syndrome.

Other Institutions Working Along

The CFIDS Association of America is a patient formed and driven organization dedicated to provide information and support to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients and to increasing awareness of the illness in the community. The Chronic fatigue syndrome Association of Arizona recognizes that each patient requires utmost care of his/her own physician. The Association urges each patient to seek medical advice on any modality of treatment from his/her choice of physician. The Association gives information on medical developments relating to chronic fatigue syndrome so that patients can be better informed when communicating with their own health professionals. The opinions expressed by Association members, speakers and authors are their own and the Association does not ensure the exactness of those opinions.

Objective of all the Associations

The Association does not endorse or suggest any specific treatment, therapy, medication or product for Chronic fatigue syndrome patients and does not assume any responsibility for treatments undertaken by its membership or guests. These all are a non-profit organization of research scientists, physicians, licensed medical healthcare professionals, and other individuals and institutions. These groups are mainly interested in promoting the stimulation, coordination, and exchange of ideas for chronic fatigue syndrome research and patient care. It is also involved in periodic reviews of current clinical, research and treatment ideas on chronic fatigue syndrome. This is all intended to benefit the chronic fatigue syndrome patients and others.

Herbs are useful for treating viral infections and immune suppression in chronic fatigue syndrome patients. Antiviral herbs combined with herbs that stimulate the immune system are helpful in the earlier phase. Useful herbs in this phase are Echinacea, goldenseal and licorice. During the chronic phase of chronic fatigue syndrome, useful herbs are goldenseal, astragalus, and licorice and Siberian ginseng. During the recovery phase of chronic fatigue syndrome, Asian ginseng and Siberian ginseng are especially useful.

Types of herbs:

Assorted antiviral herbs – Anti-viral herbs relieve chronic fatigue in a high percentage of people when used in combinations of Echinacea, goldenseal, licorice, lemon balm and ginger. You can make a blend of equal amounts of these herbs or use varying amounts. You can make a tea using a teaspoon or two of your blend and have a cup twice or thrice a day because these herbal teas can be energizing.

Asian ginseng and Siberian ginseng – Ginseng improves athletic performance but it takes up to a month of regular use to notice its benefits. Ginseng also stimulates the immune system and increases general resistance to all types of stress. In addition it reduces fatigue and improves alertness, coordination, memory and stress-coping abilities. Asian ginseng is a root primarily imported from China and Korea and it won mythic renown for increasing longevity.

Mate – Mate can be used one to two teaspoons a day in tea for banishing mental and physical fatigue. Mate’s energy-boosting activity comes from its caffeine content. However, it is not recommended taking mate daily to treat chronic fatigue.

Purslane and other foods containing magnesium – Magnesium is important to boost stamina and energy. Some of the foods containing more magnesium are purslane, string beans, spinach, cowpeas, lettuce, stinging nettle, poppy seeds, licorice root and coriander.

Spinach and other foods containing folate – Folate is the naturally occurring form of folic acid and its deficiency is quite common leading to need of folic acid supplement. Folate rich foods include spinach, pinto beans, asparagus, broccoli, okra and Brussels sprouts.

Wheatgrass and other grasses – Wheatgrass juice is often recommended for fatigue. Any juiced wholesome grass, including barley, oats, couch grass or wheat can be helpful for relief in chronic fatigue.

Herbal medicines act slowly. The time taken to completely resolve the situation can vary from as four to six weeks to twelve or eighteen months depending upon the duration of the illness and other accompanying health problems.

Some people often complain of tiredness and dizziness. Most of these patients, present with constant and disabling fatigue show no abnormalities on physical examination or screening laboratory tests. This tiredness does not go on for months and the affected person does not feel better even after a period of rest. These substantial periods of fatigue are defined as the chronic fatigue syndrome. It is a disorder, which is common in every age group especially in the middle aged persons. CFS is the short form of the chronic fatigue syndrome. CFS is a disabling disease, in which the person feels so tired that he cannot even do his routine work such as dressing up and bathing.

Apart from fatigue there are some secondary symptoms of CFS. The recovery can also take much time. There are many drugs and painkillers such as paracetamol are prescribed by the doctors to treat various symptoms of CFS. A balanced diet and some diet supplements are also very necessary. A light exercise can help to increase the stamina and relieve the stress and fatigue. But do not get too much exercise because, it can make the symptoms worse.
