The feet may reflect your general health and your comfort. Symptoms such as persistence and soreness are the indicating signs of the diseases attacking in the near by future. Like if you ignore the painful join, then it can worsen and become acutely painful. Later you may start to walk badly and invite further painful conditions fro your feet. Most of the people ignore the foot care. Keep your feet clean and cared; it helps you to protect from the attacking diseases. One must take proper foot care, keep away the foot problems, and walk in a better the way.

Pumice rocks

Pumice rocks are the igneous rocks. These rocks are formed when the lava is cooled quickly above the ground. There are little pockets of air on the rock surface. The rock is very light and they are capable of floating in the water. Pumice is a type of glass and not actually mixture of minerals. Pumice rock is one of the most preferred natural cleaning products than the other natural cleaners like the baking soda, or anything as they fail to improve the conditions. This rock is thus used as soap for foot care.

Natural cleaner

The pumice grains contained in this soap help to exfoliate dead cells. It has rough texture and so cleaning of feet becomes easier. The feet are cleansed deeply and become smooth and softer. Regular basis of application of this pumice soap helps to avoid cracked heels. The Pumice rock soap benefits in minimal processing, naturally occurring abundance. It helps in the cleaning process due to its sandy structure. Instead of using those expensive cleaners for your foot, you could use this pumice rock soap. This soap could be used for other various purposes for stains in sinks, hard water cleaning, metal polishes, cosmetic supplies, processed stones for sloughing skin. Proper foot care is necessary in order to avoid the foot critical conditions. The pumice rock soap cleans the foot and keeps clean. The clean foot keeps away all the foot conditions. If these conditions are not cured at the earlier stage then the case might worsen later. Many diseases could be caught up with, if you do not take care for your feet.

About blisters in feet:

Blisters are generally the results of the defense mechanism of the human body. They are generally formed when a part of the body is exposed to excessive heat mostly by burns or friction. Blisters helps to repair the damage to the skin and is an accumulation of the bodily fluids mainly lymph forming beneath the uppermost layer of the skin. Very often blisters can also occur in the feet usually when the feet get hot and sweaty. Sweaty feet will always make the socks stick to the feet that will make the foot and the sock rub against each other as well as the inside of the shoe resulting in a blister.

Symptoms of foot blisters:

The appearance of the feet blisters much resembles to that of water filled balloon. The blister can be vulnerable to infection if they are either punctured or popped up. Sometimes the blisters pop out by themselves naturally, resulting in redness or red lines near the spot. In such a case it is always better to seek attention. However in most cases a blister are found to reabsorb and heals on their own.

Remedies for foot blisters:

The first remedial issue is to decide whether the blisters are to be pricked or they are to be kept for self-healing. This consideration is to be made depending upon the size of the blister. A very unique way to protect the blisters from draining is through the use of a moleskin doughnut. Cutting a moleskin pad into a doughnut shape and placing it over the blister keeping the blister in the central area can make this. Still if the blister somehow gets punctured then the first precaution to take is keep the blister spot and the surrounding areas clean probably with an antiseptic. This might help to fight off the possible chances of an infection. Generally it is found that most of the people after pricking a blister pull of the roof at the same time. This can turn out to be disaster especially if the wounded part of the skin is left open. It is a good sign if the blister like most other wounds gets better day by day and should not be much of a concern. However if things do not goes according to this then it is the right time to seek professional help.

An introduction to aromatherapy:

Aromatherapy is a very ancient mode of treatment that has its roots of origination in the orient and at present its popularity is experiencing a steady rise in the west. Basically aromatherapy is a complimentary or alternative form of treatment that involves the use of volatile liquids extracted from plants that are known as essential oils in conjunction with aromatic compounds that also sourced out from plants targeted to affect a person’s mood and overall health.

Historical account of aromatherapy:

The use of aromatic plants especially for healing has been recorded since the Neanderthal times. Even today in most ancient cultures of the world like Chinese, Indian, Tibetan, Australian and New Zealand, North American, South American, Egyptian, Roman, and Middle Eastern they are accepted as a herbal medicine. In earlier times traditional uses of aromatic essences were performed through inhalation, ingestion and topical applications. However the present scenario of aromatherapy has under gone drastic changes with advancement in medical science. Aromatherapy is known for its effect that produces both psychological and physiological impacts upon the human body and mind. The nature of the psychological therapies may be rapid, relaxing and stimulating and depends mainly upon the prior experiences of the individual and the chemistry of the essential oils that are being used.

Aromatherapy and foot care:

The human feet are indeed the marvels of engineering that function to balance and move the entire body with the help of 26 bones in conjunction with the muscles and the ligaments. The feet indeed deserve care and attention and the best way is to opt for a natural regime and in this what else can be a better option rather than aromatherapy. The essential oils that are used in the foot care aromatherapy are extracted from various organic and vitalizing botanical resources that include aloe vera, comfrey, ginseng, goldenrod, shea butter and seaweed. The combination of all these materials naturally improves the hard and sturdy skin of the feet in order to promote radiance. For cooling and refreshment purposes aromatherapy uses oils of peppermint, benzoin and rosemary that are perfect for soothing the tired and the sore after a busy day.

The human feet are composed of 26 bones, 33 joints and 112 ligaments that are perfectly designed for movement and balancing of the entire body. It is very natural that the feet can and do get injured. There may be numerous sources of injuries.

Causes of foot injuries:

Probably the pounding of the road, the friction of ill-fitting shoes, the germs in a locker room and many other problems can lead to foot injury or disease. Hence the feet should never be taken for granted. The injuries may be of different types and can be the resultant of over use or inflexibility of the tissues. Many a times the injuries can also be caused by sprains mainly of the ligaments stretching or tearing that can lead to excessive swelling and pain. The vulnerability of the feet to various types of infections mainly fungal or bacterial is also very common.

Remedies for foot injuries:

In the cases of overstretch and use of the tendons that may lead to a to Achilles tendonitis stretching the calf and tendon are imperative. Anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen and naproxen sodium, administered through oral intake 2 to 3 times daily is best. An ice massage can also be very effective in relieving the conditions. In the case of sprains an immediate cease of the working of that part should be done since one may not feel the pain pf a sprain right away and continue working out the part resulting in much more damage. First aid for sprains is ice and compression. Professional help should be sought if the pain and swelling persists. Most of the infections either bacterial or fungal can be treated with over the counter medications. These commonly comprises of anti-fungal or anti-bacterial ointments and gels.

Topical medications can cure fungal areas and many effective creams are available in the pharmacy store without a prescription. These are suitable for various yeast and dermatophyte infections. These creams should be applied to the infected zone two times daily for half to one month in such a way, that some area of normal skin is also included. Even though the last rash disappears, continue the application for a couple of weeks. Chronic use is often felt a necessity.

The Treatment

As the fungus in the nails spreads slowly, it is difficult to totally stop it. Anti-fungal creams cannot move deep into the nails to eradicate the fungus from its origin and are usually not effective. Nizoral is one of the powerful creams, which have to be applied in large quantity. Some oral doses available must be taken regularly for several months for them to take effect under supervision of the physician. Griseofulvin demands 12-18 months treatment and even then the fungus can reappear. Nizoral is another oral dose, which is stronger than Griseofulvin and has more severe side effects. Symptoms like fatigue, nausea, dark urine, bleeding, loss of hunger, yellow eyes, skin rashes must be reported quickly. The physician may need intermittent blood tests to gauge how the body is responding to the oral medications. Unfortunately anti-fungal medications do not assure non-recurrence and hence repeated treatment is required. So physicians recommend treatment only if the fungal infection leads to second rung problems like pain, ingrown toenails or bacterial infections. Certain insurance companies need documentary proof of the presence of these secondary problems before funding the treatment. Some routines to be observed are avoiding frequent contact with moisture, use of absorbent socks, donning waterproof sandals and do not use synthetic shoes.

Creams

It is claimed that some creams will totally cease the problem. Various persistent nail fungus start to disappear in one week and are completely eradicated in two to three weeks. This is achieved by killing the fungus causing irritation, detoxification of the skin, clearing of the pores, regrowing new skin and new nails. It contains oxygen and silver and hence claimed to be the natural treatment.

An overview on athletes’ foot:

The scientific name of the disease of athletes’ foot is tinea pedis. Athletes’ foot is a typical fungal infection that mostly occurs on the skin of the feet and is most common in the toes. A parasitic fungus causes the infection. Although, the human body hosts numerous microorganisms that includes bacteria and fungi only a few of them are useful to the best and the rest are classified as the pathogenic or disease causing. Upon favorable conditions these pathogens overgrow and reproduce causing infections.

Causes and nature of athletes’ foot:

Athletes’ foot may be contagious sometimes and have the potentiality of spreading from human to human, animal to human and even from the soil to the human. Generally the athletes’ foot fungus growth is promoted by factors such as dark, warm and moist environments. Common symptoms of this typical infection include scaling, flaking and itching of the affected skin. Sometimes the situtation may also give rise to blisters and cracked skin resulting in pain, swelling and inflamation. Many a times the infection is found to spread in other parts of the body mostly in the armpits, knees, elbows and the groin.

Treatment of the athletes’ foot:

Athletes’ foot is most commionly treated with topical antifungal agents like miconazole, itraconazole, terbinifine and a keratolytic like salicyclic acid. However topical treatments are only effective in the abscense of the germs. Even though they are capable of clearing the infection they take a peolonged period of time making the requirement of topical treatments lasting up to 45 days or ever longer many a times. In addition tpopical treatments leaves the chances reinfection for which washing of the socks, underwears and the bed clothes becomes imperative. Since most of the topical applications releive itchings to a great extent sufferes may think that the infection is relieved an do not complete the course of the treatment. Other than topical treatments oral treatments are also available for athletes’ foot that started from the year 1950 typically with griseofulvin. Since most of the drugs were found to be greatly contributing liver problems and numerous other side effects they were used very sparingly and with caution.

People depend on their feet more than they may realize. Over a lifetime, people walk about 115,000 miles, on an average. It is very easy to take healthy feet for granted, but foot problems are actually the most common health problems. Proper foot problem can help preventing from the several diseases that may occur. Foot problems seem to be increasing with your age. Some of the changes are obvious ones but some more disorders are seen then for sure there is some disorder. If your foot is hurt, you too are hurt. The common foot problems are thickening, brittleness, discoloration, fungal infection, and ingrown nails.

Foot construction

The foot has 26 bones, 120 ligaments, 33 joints, and 20 separate muscles, which work all together to control the movement of the parts. One quarter of the foot contains the body’s bones. If the structural complexity of the foot is combined, then several disorders may occur. Proper treatments and preventative methods should be applied. You can also consult your physician about your foot condition and take proper treatments. You could also take some simple care for your foot.

Simple remedies

Do not clip the nails to shorten them. Use nail polish remover at frequent timings, the ones containing acetone. Do not use the nail polish remover more than once a week. After you have bathed, apply cream as the soap tends to cause the skin and nails become very dry. Cuticles should be well maintained by applying Vaseline or a moisturizer. Avoid peeling off and scarping off the nail paint using metal instruments as this also scraps offs the protective cells of the nail surface. Do your pedicure as it removes the dirt form under the nails and softens dry nails. Avoid nail biting as it causes destruction to both nail and cuticle. It also causes infection that can deform the nail. Trimming nails is a better option. Trim your nails from time to time. Trim toenails straight across, avoid cutting them too short. Cutting the nails in the corners and sides increases the risk for the ingrown toenails. Ingrown nails are caused when the nail is incurvated and penetrates the skin. The improper trimming to nails causes the ingrown of nails. Take proper care while trimming your toenail. Take care of your foot and lead a toe disease free condition.

About Ayurvedic foot care:

Of all the parts of the human body the feet are the most strained and the worked out part. Still they are ignored and neglected many a times. Due to lack of proper care of the feet there may be a lot of resultant problems like corns and bunions, cracks, infections and ingrown nails. From Ayurvedic point massage of the feet is the biggest sort of treatment as well relieving therapy. Ayurveda suggests massaging the feet each night with oil for relaxation and keeping them soft and supple. There are specific oils for specific seasons like for example in winter warm oil can be used with sesame or mustard oil and for the summer coconut oil will provide a cooling effect.

Ayurvedic remedies for foot disorders and problems:

For corns Ayurveda suggests the sap of marigold stem, milky juice from green figs or papaya juice are all good remedies. All these can be applied to the affected area frequently. For the crack on the heals which are very common condition with the women the remedies includes the application of a warm mixture of about three table spoons of bee wax and one table spoon of sea same oil to the affected areas. Other than this a warm mixture of ghee and sea same oil on the affected areas can also be effective in relieving the symptoms.

Feet bear a cumulative weight total of 1,000 tons a day and over an average lifetime carry the body about 140,000 miles. Certainly the feet, bearing this enormous workload and giving such mileage, deserve attentive care to render this heroic service.

Steps to prevent foot trouble

Foot troubles are the result of different causes like heredity, injury, neglect, abuse and shoes of faulty design or fit. Most foot problems are preventable. An attentive care is important. Frequent bathing, frequent foot massage, habitual toe wiggling and other foot exercises helps to keep the skin and muscles well toned, which contributes to healthy, trouble-free feet later. Shoe care is equally important, buy the right size width, avoiding tight or even snug fit. Tight shoes cause firmness and friction, which in turn cause heat and extreme perspiration, which cause odors, skin disorders and discomfort.

Preventing Foot Trouble

Follow good foot care. Check feet regularly, or have a member of the family check them. It also helps to keep blood circulating to feet as much as possible. Do this by putting feet up while sitting or lying down, stretching after sitting for a long while, walking, having a gentle foot massage, or taking a warm footbath. Wearing comfortable shoes that fit well can prevent many foot ailments. The size of feet changes, as one grows older so always measure before buying shoes. The best time to measure feet is at the end of the day when the feet are largest. Do not select shoes by the size marked inside the shoe but by how the shoe fits the foot. During the fitting process, make sure there is enough space. Make sure the ball of foot fits comfortably into the widest part of the shoe. Walk in the shoes to make sure they fit and feel right. Then buy them and spend some time walking on carpet to make sure the fit is a good one. The upper part of the shoes should be made of a soft, flexible material to match the shape of the foot. Shoes made of leather can reduce the risk of skin irritations. Soles should provide solid footing and not be slippery. Thick soles cushion is better when walking on hard surfaces. Low-heeled shoes are more comfortable, safer and less damaging than high-heeled shoe.

Causes

The foot consists of 28 bones connected by joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles between them. It adjusts to varying surfaces, when it is working correctly. When excess stress, badly constructed footwear or injury acts on the foot, its system fails and gives rise to pain. While practicing sports, feet are subjected to 300-400% more pressure than normal activities. This causes excessive foot pain.

Care

Foot pain care can be done in the following ways. Sports shoes having a heel pad should be used. Hill and speedy running should be reduced. Leather arch pad pair relieves arch pain and problems due to flat foot. Apply ice to reduce pain and swelling. Raise the painful foot to the maximum. Those with frequent arch problems should give up high heels and replace them by a shock absorbing one. To overcome initial stage arthritis a painkiller like aspirin is used. For an early stage of bunion pain, lukewarm water soaks can bring temporary relief. Do not used narrow, high-heeled shoes. To overcome pronation, anti-pronation insoles have to be used. To overcome nueroma, use an elastic sleeve that slips on the forefoot providing cushioning effect. To avoid pain, due to Ingrowing nails cut toenails straight and do not use tight shoes.

For hard skins apply a moisturizing cream two times daily or utilize pumice stone to reduce the thickness of the skin. Do not peel off the hard skin with a razor or scissors. Foot massage is very relaxing method and involves stroking, ankle rotation, pivoting, kneading and finger walking. Foot massage oils like Joint Ease, Sensual, Stress Rub and Warming and Uplifting are available. For painful foot blisters boil a needle for 10 minutes in water, cool it and slowly pierce it in the blister. Press surrounding areas to remove the fluid and apply an antiseptic cream. If nothing seems to work out consult a podiatrist or chiropodist as seemed necessary.

Products

A product called “Orthotics” is very prevalent. It realigns the foot to its natural position, makes weight to be fairly spread over the foot and gives shock absorption thus providing foot pain care. It has an exclusive heel cup, which does not allow the ankles to get twisted.

About foot skin scrubbing:

The feet are the most integral and important part of the human that is responsible for movement and balancing of the entire human body. Hence they demand special attention and care. Naturally the skin is coarse in nature with a rough external appearance. The skin of this part of the body needs to be renewed and exfoliated like the skin of the other parts of the body. For this process scrubbing is best suited. Scrubbing is a natural process that helps in the removal of the dead skin cells and gives the feet an absolute new look.

Historical account of foot scrubbing:

The first record of scrubbing was found in the pre historic times when the people of Babylonia used stones found in the riverbed for scrubbing their feet. Since then the benefits and the advantages of scrubbing have spread widely in many cultures and today for many people scrubbing is more of a necessity rather than a luxury. In the present market there is a wide variety of feet scrubs available. However it is always a better option to make a home made scrub since they are far better then the commercialized ones. Prior to scrubbing the feet it is important that the feet should be soaked well in a solution or simply water so that the foot smoothens. In addition to this benefit this also makes the scrubbing easier.

Homemade scrubs and soaks:

Due to a fast paced life and tight schedules proper foot care is of little or no importance to many of us. People jam their feet in to their favorite pair of shoes which they call fashionable, stub their toes, ignore the nails, many a times kick them around and still demand to carry them all day around. Moreover many of us are afraid to even think about the foot care and pedicure imagining the hole they will make in their pockets. The good news is that there are plenty of simple and inexpensive ways through which proper foot care can be achieved at home. Soaking and scrubbing are two such ways that can be done with minimal investments of time, money and resources for the achievement of an excellent foot care.

The feet work so hard daily, so why not treat them to one of these refreshing homemade foot soak recipes. They are easy to make and use all natural ingredients that are available at home and with very less expense too. One will need a large pan or footbath and a few basic ingredients such as Epsom salts and few Essential Oils that can order from any near by stores to have them handy. These footbath recipes may not be suitable for persons with diabetes, problems with cracked foot skin or other skin conditions.

Basic Foot care Recipe

This type of recipe can be used as a base for whatever essential oils one wishes to use. Here are few names of essential oils that one can use for a start like lavender, rosewood, geranium, frankincense, lime, patchouli, sandalwood and bergamot.

Direction to use

At first fill a large bowl or pan with cold or warm water to cover the ankles properly. Now place stones or marbles in the bottom of the bowl. While moving the feet over the marbles they act as wonderful soothing and stimulating massagers and makes feel relaxed. Drop 2 – 3 drops of Essential Oil into the water and try these combinations like 3 drops tea tree, 3 drops lavender, 2 drops lemon and for relaxing put 3 drops marjoram, 1 drop peppermint, 1 drop lavender and immerse feet in water and soak them for few minutes and enjoy. If these thing are not available easily then use alternative like take a small cup of Epsom salts, which can be mixed into the water to help with relaxing muscles, cleansing skin and increasing circulation in the feet for better blood flow. There are many home made recipes one can experiment on them too if it suits their skin type.

Coffee feet soak recipes

This is the latest trend in particular pedicures. Any kind of foot soak is good but when one needs a boost, coffee seems to soothe and stimulate feet. Take 2 cups coffee brewed and not instant one and 1 gallon of warm water. The direction for this is just add 2-cups of coffee to 1-gallon of water and soak for 10 to 15 minutes then rinse feet, later dry and moisturize thoroughly.

Extensive research has given rise to various topical applications. Some of them are mentioned below.

Neuropathy

In diabetic neuropathy, there is a harsh burning feeling in both soles of the feet, which aggravates at night disturbing the sleep. There is hypersensitivity to pressure and touch on both feet. There may be gross sensation loss and an insensitive foot ulcer. TCAs (Tricyclic Antidepressants) are vital drugs in the treatment of neuropathy. The painkilling effect is unrelated to the antidepressant activity. It is effective even at less doses with fast start of reduction of pain, within a couple of weeks. It has various side effects like sleepiness, damaged cognitive work and undesired cardiovascular results. These are seen in case of one third of the patients. TCAs do not deal with the root cause of neuropathy nor do they retard its progress but definitely make life bearable by raising the comfort level. One such TCA is “Doxepin hydrochloride”. In case of peripheral neuropathy related to Diabetes Mellitus, a contemporary application consists of the use of a lotion, ointment or cream containing “Capsicum Oleoresin” as an active constituent. If it is applied to the affected foot daily, the pain and burning may diminish.

Photodynamic therapy

It is pragmatic to photosensitize yeasts and dermatophytes by the use of ALA (5-aminolevulinic acid). This procedure is called Photodynamic therapy (PDT). 25% ALA is prepared in Eucerin cream. Then it is applied under dressings to the skin wounds of patients with interdigital mycosis of the feet. These lesions are irradiated with broadband red light after 4 hours. After a week, if the wounds are not visible no treatment is given. Or else three weekly treatments are given.
Recovery is evident in two third of the patients but reappearance of lesions is quick in some patients. Overall, ALA-PDT has good curative ability on interdigital mycosis of feet. The erratic three-dimensional shape of the feet causes a dissimilar release of red light over the lesions.

Athlete’s foot

The infected foot is subjected with topical applications like salicylic acid, miconazole, itraconazole and terbinafine. These agents can get rid of the infection only one third of the time. They require minimum one and half month. As the itching sensation decreases fast, patients must not cease the therapy until the duration is over. Castellani’s Paint is used for Intertrigo.

Odor in the foot can be an uncomfortable problem, but it is completely normal and natural for perspiration, dead skin cells and bacteria to cause some amount of foot odor. In most cases odor problems are avoidable and when they are not preventable they are almost always treatable too.

Tips to remove odor

Bacteria usually cause foot odor and the only way to really get rid of it is to get rid of the bacteria first. The better strategy is to prevent the bacteria from growing in the first place itself. Products like charcoal-impregnated insoles are not that helpful as because they do not get rid of the source of the problem. Here are few tips to remove the odor.

1. Wash the feet thoroughly every day with a good antibacterial soap. Scrub them hard with a washcloth or body brush to remove all of the dead skin cells regular. Take extra care to scrub the area between toes.

2. Now dry the feet immediately after bathing, especially between the toes. Few people use a hair dryer to make sure their feet are completely dry.

3. Change socks frequently, especially after exercising.

4. Do not wear the same shoes two days in a row. Try to let shoes dry out 1 or 2 days between wearing. It would be best to do this for exercise shoes too, but not many people can afford to buy 3 pairs of good shoes

5. Sprinkle talcum powder or one of the commercial foot powders into the toes of the socks to help keep the feet dry and discourage the growth of bacteria. Some people like to use baking soda but others say it feels gritty against the skin.

6. If one believes that feet perspire excessively, one can rub an underarm antiperspirant into the feet to help them stay dry. If it contains Aluminum Chlorohydrate, as it will be more effective, but wash it off right away if it starts to irritate the feet.

7. If nothings work, just try applying a 5% or 10% solution of Benzyl Peroxide gel to the feet, to decrease bacteria growth.

It said that unhealthy foot makes uneasy head prompts to tackle feet problems at early stage before they get worse and require attention of health care professional. Herbal remedies, foot baths, herbal massage and body oils may help reverse and heal foot sores, lacerations, cracked heels, corns, calluses, dry skin, combat bad foot odor, foot skin pealing and encourage healthy living and breathing foot skin. Herbal foot mask or wash massage cracked feet with peppermint essential oil that is best for it’s cooling and tingling effect.

Tips before herbal application

By massaging the feet each night with oil is relaxing and keeps feet soft and flexible. In winter warm oil can be used like sesame or mustard oil. In summer coconut oil provides a cooling effect in feet. These natural products really give immediate remedy for the routine pain on feet.

If the shoes are to tight, pinch and do not fit properly corns appear due to the pressure put on the skinny areas of the foot and also hinder the circulation of blood ultimately leading to corns formation. The quick remedy for this is to apply papaya juice or milky juice from green figs on the affected area. Use warm water and soak feet for 10 – 15 minutes to soften the skin and allow the herbs and oils to go through and wash with a good natural soap. Use an herbal foot cream to moisturize and soothe feet.

Herbal footbath direction

For herbal footbath one will need 1- 2 gallon cooking pan if possible with non-metal interior surface. Stainless steel vessel is the second choice. Spring or distilled water is the best choice. If there is only chlorinated water, fill the pot with water now boil it for 5 minute and let stay for 8 – 12 hour before use. Fill the container with water, put the bath packet in and let soak for 10 – 20 minute again. It is acceptable to leave the packet soak for the whole day. Bring the water to boiling and ferment on low fire under the lid for about 20 minute. Make sure that water is hardly boiling and brew the bath at near boil temperature for about 30 – 40 minute. Now turn off the fire and let cool down to relaxed temperature. Take footbath in a warm room for best result.
