Actually what happens is that Tai chi increases the circulation, which improves the joint function. Apply cold for 10 to 15 minutes for 2 t0 3 times a day.</p>

<p>Rest Means</p>
<p>Often, joint pains occur when they are under excess pressure or constant strain. Working in the office or on the field for long hours can lead to severe joint pains. Joint pains particularly affect people who sit in one place for too long and work strenuously continuously. Hence, in such times it is advised for the individual to take some rest and then return to work. Hence, after working at the computer or the work desk for a long time, the individual must take a break. This would give sufficient rest to the joints in the wrists, back and neck and they would be ready to face further work load. Hence, every weekend, people who have a very hectic work profile must take time off and relax and give the joints a break from the heavy pressure. Also, people must never compromise on the sleep even if they have high work pressure. Atleast a minimum of 6-8 hours of sleep is required for the body to rest and recharge. Even for the joints, this rule applies. They must stretch out on the bed or on the floor to ensure that the joints are stretched out and all the stiffness is driven out.</p>
<p>Also, even while exercising, individuals must take a break in between. While doing exercises like walking, yoga, tai chi and other exercises for relieving <strong><em><u>joint pain</u></em></strong>, individuals must sit down for sometime and relax. They can even lie down so that the joints get enough rest after all the flexing and stretching has been done. Over-exerting can greatly affect the joints and instead of removing the pain, the exercises would result in increasing the <strong>joint pain</strong>. Hence, while taking walks, sitting on a nearby bench for a few minutes helps a great deal for the joints to relax.</p>
<p>Taking adequate amounts of rest is a must and a very important part of joint relieving process. So, just relax and unwind!</p>

<p>Tips for hot or warm water treatment</p>
<p>Soak in a warm bath, shower, Jacuzzi or whirlpool makes a great difference in the paining area. Place a heating pad on the painful area. Use an electric blanket or mattress pad. Use flannel sheets. They feel warmer against skin. Use a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel to keep feet, back, or hands warm. Before getting dressed, warm clothes by placing them on top of the dryer for a few minutes. Dip hands in a paraffin bath. This is a mixture of melted paraffin and mineral oil. The warm coating soothes stiff, painful fingers. Soak hand or foot in warm water, then cold water, then warm water again.</p>
<p>After using heat or warm water</p>
<p>Check the area for any swelling or discoloration and carefully dry the area. Gently move joint to reduce stiffness. Allow skin to return to normal temperature before using another treatment. Use either heat or warm water bath only 15-20 minutes at a time. Let skin return to its normal temperature before using another application. Always put a towel between skin and any type of pack. Do not use heat that is too hot or cold that is too cold. It is normal for skin to appear pink after using a hot or cold pack. If any area appears dark red or spotty red and white, there may be some skin damage. Do not use creams, heat rubs, or lotions on skin while using a hot or cold treatment. Do not make bath or shower water too hot. This may cause dizziness or fatigue</p>

<p>Walking as an exercise is ideal for all. Be it young or old, frail or strong, almost everyone can indulge in the exercise of walking and maintain their body in the healthiest condition. People suffering from joint pain must remember that the problem is mainly caused due to lack of movement of the joints. Hence, they must try and provide maximum movement to the joints so that the rigidity is removed and the joints work smoothly. Short walks provide the perfect exercise and movement for the joints. Especially, if people lead a very sedentary life and do not have enough physical activity must ensure that they atleast take a walk everyday. <p>Good posture helps people stand, walk, sit and lie in positions that place the least strain on supporting muscles and ligaments during movement and weight-bearing activities. Correct posture helps to keep bones and joints in correct alignment so that muscles are used correctly, decreasing the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces that could result in degenerative arthritis and <strong><em><u>joint pain</u></em></strong>. With much practice, the correct posture for standing, sitting and lying down will gradually replace the old posture.
