Cellulitis in children
A brief idea about cellulitis
Cellulitis is a bacterial infection which affects the skin and the tissues underlying it. It mostly affects the subcutaneous tissue and it is characterized by the reddening and swelling of the skin. Cellulitis can affect any part of the body and it is mainly caused due to disintegration of the skin through which the bacteria invade into the interior and cause pain and other complication. Cellulitis is basically seen as lump which slowly spread to other places and worsen the condition. Streptococcus and staphylococcus are the most common group of bacteria associated with this disease.
Affect of cellulitis in children
Cellulitis in children is the most common disease as children are very much prone to disintegration of the skin which facilitates the entry of bacteria and get this disease. Chicken pox and scratched insect bites are the main causes for cellulitis in children. Initially cellulitis is seen as swollen and reddened inflammation in a particular area which starts spreading and the child feel sick and may also develop fever with swollen lymph nodes. The most common type of cellulitis occurring in children is periorbital cellulitis. Periorbital cellulitis affects the eyelid and the area surrounding the eye .it is a severe form of cellulitis and can be treated with antibiotics but if it is left untreated it can give rise to severe complication knows as orbital cellulitis which is characterized by bulging of eye ball and restricts the eye movement. It is the most complicated condition and need urgent attention of the doctor.
Prevention and treatment of cellulitis in children
Prevention always has been the best option to prevent from any disease and in case of cellulitis in children it is very easy to prevent them from getting affected by cellulitis. Children can be kept away from cellulitis by avoiding them to get brushes in the skin and if somehow the get some scratches then it should be cleaned in order to destroy the bacteria. Various type of protective equipment like elbow and knee pads while skating can protect their body and thus cellulitis can be avoided. in case of severe cellulitis it is always wise to consult a doctor and the prescribed antibiotics can heal it within a few days and thus a child will be out of all worries an pain .
