Cellulitis of the eye
The causative agent:
The term cellulitis is the infection of the underlining and the adjoining tissues in the eye region. The agents are certain bacteria–Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilous influenza.
Transmission:
The routes of transmission are through the direct and the indirect methods. The direct Method is the trauma to the eye. The indirect method is the relocation after the infection fronts other part. The sinuses, nasal passages, the air pockets are the key factors.
The type
There are two types: The Pre-septal cellulitis; the infection is from the area near Th e skin of the eyelid to the bony sockets of the eyes. The Orbital Cellulitis: the infection is in the eye, its structures and the bony cavity of the face. The manifestations are both alike but can only be differentiated clinically.
Symptoms;
These are divided into two of the categories namely the symptoms of pre-septal cellulitis; The swelling of the upper and the lower eyelid, constant redness in these areas, warmth, pain and little amount of feverish chills, the discomfort in certain eye-movements. The symptoms of the Orbital Cellulitis: reddening of the eye and the near-by areas, discomfort to move the eye-balls, swellings in the eye orbits and slight bulging, incorrect vision, fever. Most of the time the size of the eyeballs does not change but the vision gets blurred. This may or may not damage the retinal rods and cones depending on the type of the infection it is.
Diagnosis:
Blood tests, X-ray, and the computerized topography–this will display the elaborated images of the infected body pars with certain blotting techniques; this can be viewed in all ht cross-sectional planes. This will restricted the prolonged treatments and the fast recovery is assured.
Prophylaxis and the treatments:
The most important one is the consultation of the Ophthalmologist, Te use of antibiotics through the Intra-venous catheter in the hospital, surgical removal of the affected body parts and their possible replacement if required. The nodes and certain nodules that are formed in the eyes are generally not easily removed thus the problem arises in finding a compatible donor as its replacements. These generally require the social awakenings between the people.
