Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) Doctor – Doctor’s Advise
Now a days fatigue is a common complaint. Those individuals who have chronic fatigue lasting more than six months have a condition than can be serious and disabling. Recent research does show laboratory abnormalities in the CFS patient population, although the search continues for a specific biomarker that will identify the illness.
Choose a Doctor
This is especially difficult when some one has chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Understanding and acceptance of the illness is slowly growing within the medical profession. But finding a health care provider who is knowledgeable about this can be difficult. Many health care providers have difficulty-diagnosing CFS and some do not even know that the illness exists. CFS patients often have the responsibility of finding a knowledgeable health care provider. If someone already has a good relationship with a health care provider, then one should urge him/her to develop an understanding of CFS. Educate the doctor by providing him/her with literature about the illness.
When to go to the Doctor…
Exercise the right to receive appropriate medical care but respect that office visits do have time limits. Be prepared for the visit with a list of the symptoms and medications. Ask questions and answer questions fully. Write things down. A diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome is based on exclusion, which means that before arriving at a diagnosis, a doctor has ruled out any other disease, or condition that may be causing fatigue and related symptoms. In general, doctors find it difficult to diagnose chronic fatigue syndrome because it has some of the same signs and symptoms as many other diseases have. There is no diagnostic or laboratory procedure to confirm the presence of chronic fatigue syndrome. Many or most cases of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome appear to begin with a viral illness. However, bacterial infections, environmental toxins or emotional distress may also be triggers. It is uncertain whether those who are chronically ill have a continuous infection or whether immune system, metabolic and neural damage perpetuates itself in other ways. So ask the doctor to get few more tests done, which they skip most.
