Chronic fatigue syndrome can never be permanently cured. This syndrome is also known as CFS in the abbreviated form. In this type of syndrome includes prolong prevalence fatigue. This disease was first named in 1980.
Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Chronic fatigue syndrome contains major and minor symptoms. New-onset fatigue which is lasting for more than six months and has resulted into 50% reduction in the activity of an individual is considered as a major symptom for chronic fatigue syndrome. At this level no medical or psychiatric assistant is of any help. Hence the best way to curtail chronic fatigue syndrome is to treat it at its initial stage itself. Some of the minor symptoms depicted by most of the patients suffering from this syndrome include mild fever and headache. Soar throat, general muscle weakness and myalgias. Myalgias refers to muscle pain is also considered as one of the minor symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome. Sleep disturbance such as insomnia and hypersomnia are also common symptoms observed in patients suffering from this syndrome. Some patients also complain about neuropsychological problems such as confusion, irritability, depression, poor concentration and forgetfulness.
Statistics Regarding Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Research says that this syndrome usually occurs in huge number amongst women than men. It is said that chronic fatigue syndrome is three times more prevalent in women then in men. It is also said that even children can be affected by this syndrome. Approximately 90% of cases fall under the age group of 25 to 50 years. Statistics provide that around 500,000 Americans suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome. In other words 1 among 544 Americans i.e. 0.18% of American population is suffering from this syndrome. Although this number seems to be nominal, it is rising considerably. Almost all the patients suffering from this syndrome complain about fatigue. Around 60-95% of the patients complain about low-grade fever. The frequency of sleep disorders is 15-90% and that of psychological problems ranges from 70-85%. 50-75% of patients complain of headache, cough, soar throat and allergies. These statistics are changing considerably. Hence, today this syndrome requires considerable amount of attention in order to control its outbreak.
