Depression will affect most people at some point in their life. We can get over depression and the hard times will the support of close friends and family. Depression is a chemical imbalance of the brain that is caused by some traumatic event, drugs, or hormones. Teens are very likely to become depressed and so are older women because they are going through a change of life. As for drugs, many of them will cause a person to become depressed because of their abuse.

In recent research, two major types of depression have surfaced. Major depressive disorder is where a person will have an episode five or more times in a bi-weekly basis. The depression will be recurrent and they will have an episode every now and then for most of their life. It can be diagnosed with medication and therapy, but it never goes away completely. As for a more moderate type of depression, Dysthymia is where you will suffer from the smaller side effects of depression. The smaller effects of the disorder is things like not eating or overeating, not sleeping or oversleeping, or not having any energy at all. You will also just be tired if you suffer from Dysthymia. People with the milder type of depression are not impaired by the disorder. They will go to work, come home, and complain little or none.

People of all racial groups, social groups, and age can get depression. In fact, most people will suffer from depression at some time in their life. Most of the time, people who are diagnosed with depression rage from 25-44 in age. However, it has been documented that child as young as five have committed suicide because of their depression. When it comes to America, over twenty million people will become depressed each and everyday.

If you feel that you know someone who may suffer from depression, you may just want to spend more time with them or talk to a third party to help relieve your concerns. You can talk to your friend or family member, tell them compliments, and let them know that you are there for them. By letting someone know that you care, you may just be the thing that saves a life.
