Women are most fertile before few days of ovulation and twenty-four hours after ovulation. A sperm can live up to six days in fertile quality cervical fluid where as the ovum can live up to twenty-four hours in the region. Typically sperm can live about three days and ovum about six to twelve hours. One fifth of the women feel ovulatory activity ranging from mild ache to twinges of pain and cramping whereas some women also experience Nausea, Moodiness, sore breasts and nipples from the surge of estrogen before ovulation and even some women has spotting during ovulation because of egg breakage. Sperm reaches the fallopian tubules and the egg within the fraction of minutes, as they need about twelve hours in uterus before they can fertilize the egg in a special process and this process is called Capacitation. So, it is suggested to take time intercourse at least twelve hours before ovulation. Spermatozoa become capable of fertilization during this maturation process with in the female reproductive track. In case to avoid pregnancy, six days before ovulate and twenty-four hours after ovulate intercourse should be prohibited.

Cervical fluid

Cervical fluid is mucus segregated from cervix produced by the estrogen hormone in follicular phase of monthly cycle. This fluid helps sperm to live up to five days, without acidifying the sperm in vagina and assisting it to the fallopian tube for better fertilization. Being aware of the functions of cervical mucus fluid could help one for better ovulation and indulges for better fertilization.

Improving fertilization

Having sex before and on the day of ovulate helps better fertilization. Knowing whether the cervical mucus is thicker or hostile helps you know the free movement of sperm through the fallopian tube. Male are suggested to take cold shower and a cup of strong coffee before thirty minutes of intercourse for better production of sperms. Women are suggested to reduce consuming caffeine and alcohol according to researchers. Male should use a pillow under bottom and should lie for thirty minutes after intercourse. More than three hundred milligrams of caffeine reduces twenty seven percent by fertility. One's doctor must prescribe Clomiphene for better fertilization, which helps ovaries for good number of egg release.
