Dandruff is a common problem consequent due to a various reasons. On of the most common reasons is growth of fungus on the scalp. Dandruff due to fungus have multitude of symptoms such as itchiness, scalp tightness, dry feel, irritation and flakes. Various researches have proved that this kind of fungus releases unsaturated fatty acids, which break the scalp and cause the mentioned symptoms, including increase cell turnover. The most effective way to treat dandruff arising due to these conditions is to target the causative fungal organisms with anti fugal shampoos. In addition there are various natural remedies to curb dandruff due to fungus.

Anti fungal shampoos

Today you have a number of companies that manufacture anti-dandruff shampoos. Most shampoos contain various anti-fungal ingredients that reduce the amount of fungus on the scalp, therefore treating the leading cause of dandruff. Zinc Pyrithione, Selenium Sulphide and Ketoconazole are the common content of these shampoos. Further more there are anti-proliferate agents that slow down the production of skin cells without necessarily acting directly against the fungus. Coal tar is one such ingredient that is often used in such shampoos.
Some shampoos also have Keratolytic agents that show the properties of breaking down the intercellular bind that holds skin cells together on the upper most layer of the scalp. This property separates the top layer as they shed. Sulphur, salicylic acid are commonly used for the task.

Natural ways

Neem (margosa) is the best herb to fight fungal growth on the scalp. Neem has anti fungal and anti anti bacterial properties thus can eradicate fungal infection effectively. For simple and effective application various neem-based shampoos, conditioners and oils are available in the market and proved very effective on the problem.

Home remedies

Rinsing your head with water, which is boiled together with neem, can help you prevent the growth of fungus on your scalp. Similarly regular application of coconut oil containing neem extracts and Kapoor (camphor) can help you prevent dandruff.

Along with these maintain a proper balanced and nutritious diet in addition to yoga for getting rid of fungus on the scalp for dandruff removal.
