Natural family planning includes fertility awareness helping you identify woman's phase of menstrual cycle. A woman is fertile for about 100 to 120 hours every month. This period is called window of fertility. Natural family planning helps you avoid pregnancy and improve fertility if one needs a healthy child. Natural family planning helps you getting aware of sexual intercourse resulting in pregnancy. Probability of conceiving is highest when fertility cycle is better. Temperature, mucus and cervical changes are the methods help you determine the window of fertility. Ovulation method and symptothermal method are the two common methods of natural family planning.

Ovulation method

Ovulation is a process of egg release from the ovary during each menstrual cycle. Traveling through the fallopian tube, the egg move towards the uterus enhancing fertilization. Woman's cervical mucus proves the day of ovulation. Cervical mucus is stretchy, slick and clear when a woman is most likely to become pregnant. It is suggested to make love during the day of ovulation and the day before she ovulates.

Symptothermal method

This is the second method of natural family planning. This method includes notation of temperature each day using a special thermometer and preparing a chart. This method can also be performed at your home taking better care, noting body's basal temperature. Usually woman's temperature rises slightly than a normal body temperature during the day of ovulation. Woman should check the quality and consistency of cervical mucus by wiping her vaginal area using a tissue. This proves the quality of cervical mucus for better fertilization. The other changes such as pain in the area of ovary, the woman should observe bloating, low backache and breast tenderness.

Effectiveness

People should consult a doctor and chose an instructor, who is well trained for better natural family planning. Both the above-mentioned methods are 90% and 98% effective if they practice correctly and regularly. Irregularity tends to less effectiveness. There are no restrictions for age limits and parity limit. Standard days method and two-day method are recent innovations in natural family planning.
