The thought behind many natural hair loss remedies is sound, but unfortunately like the solutions made by pharmaceutical companies, they do not work for everyone. Many of the natural hair loss remedies being advertised today have success rates similar to their pharmaceutical counterparts; however they are less expensive. Additionally, some people simply reject the idea of using chemicals on their hair and seek natural cures for hair loss.

One of the most commonly accepted causes of male pattern baldness is an overabundance of Dihydrotestosterone, DHT. Studies have shown that an omega 5 fatty acid has been beneficial in reducing the amount of DHT, effectively slowing the hair loss process. Minoxidil, a main ingredient in products such as Rogaine claims to reduce DHT, which also helps hair follicles to re-grow hair. Certain foods are known to contain omega fatty acids, hinting of their use as natural hair loss remedies such as walnuts and spinach.

Many naturalists contend that a person’s hair can be used as an indicator of their overall health and hair issues may be signs of a lack of certain vitamins or nutrients. Alopecia Areata, a temporary condition resulting in hair loss, have shown improvement in reducing hair loss by massaging essential oils into the scalp as natural hair loss remedies.

Medical Treatments Often Benefit Hair Loss Sufferers

For those losing hair for reasons other than genetics, it sometimes takes discovering and treating an underlying medical condition to stop hair loss. Persons undergoing major surgery often lose their hair due to the physical and mental stress. One of the natural hair loss remedies that have shown results is hypnosis to help alleviate associated stress. Once the underlying condition was cured, hair loss was often stopped and even reversed.

Saw palmetto is being touted as one of the natural hair loss remedies that is also beneficial for other physical problems. The majority of studies on saw palmetto have been for treatment of prostate problems by lowering DHT levels. Since DHT is a known cause of androgenic alopecia, male pattern baldness, its use as one of the natural hair loss remedies is being studied.

With many naturalists believing that a good diet is essential to preventing hair loss, studies of nettle root extract have been conducted, showing good progress of slowing the hair loss process. Other herbs such as horsetail, ginger and apple cider vinegar are also being used to prevent and treat baldness as natural hair loss remedies.
