Dandruff though being such a common problem is most misunderstood of all health problems. More over because it is not discussed so much socially as it is considered as sign of improper hygiene and thus leads to embarrassing situation. It should be understood that no amount of showering and shampooing cures dandruff. In fact dandruff is a problem that can be controlled, not cured. Due to various myths most individuals go for a wrong treatment thus worsening the situation.

Myths about dandruff

There is a common misconception about dandruff that is caused by dry skin, whereas dandruff tends to thrive more in oily skins. Dandruff normally thrives better on skins where oil glands are most productive. Some people also think that dandruff is contagious, which is not the case. However it is still advisable to avoid sharing combs and brushes. Most of us believe that dandruff can be cured but as mentioned above it can only be controlled and not cured. Thus it important that you keep taking care of your hair and scalp to prevent the irritating problem.

1. Males are more prone to dandruff as compared to females.
2. First dandruff symptoms can be seen during adolescence during the age of 6 to 10. According to researches this is mainly because of hormonal changes and oil glands become more productive during this time.
3. This problem again picks up at the age of 40.
4. Try to relax and be happy at most times as tress and tension can lead to complicated problems.
5. Winter is the time when you need to take maximum care to prevent dandruff. Always remember that sunlight and air will lessen the scalp problem. By staying indoors and wrapping up tight will encourage the dandruff growth.
6. Avoid use of dye as it contains chemicals that kill the essential nutrients and bacteria that fight against the fungal growth.

As dandruff being such a frequent problem it is very important to have a complete understanding of the reason so that right remedies can be used to prevent it.
